SMAUG will showcase and validate
the multiple solutions produced
during the project

To ensure tight cooperation between the various project end users (security agencies and port authorities) and the technical partners throughout the whole project lifecycle, SMAUG will showcase and validate the multiple solutions produced during the project.

Thus, three project pilots will be executed, and their outcomes will be examined in a real port environment and, more precisely, at the ports of Valencia (Spain), Elefsina (Greece), Heraklion (Greece), and Drammen (Norway).

The following activities will be validated:

Perform a semi-automated sonar scan from the surface vessel of vessels entering the harbour.

Perform a detailed ship hull inspection after a suspicious object has been identified during a semi-automated scan. Operators would control the uncrewed surface vessel to the vessel of interest, then remotely deploy the underwater ROV for a detailed inspection.

Perform an underwater sonar and scan of a particular area after a potential threat is identified with one of the automated detection methods; the area scan could be performed autonomously after the area to be inspected has been defined by manual or automated means.

Perform underwater inspections of harbour infrastructure using sonar and visual means.
