From engaging sessions to invaluable connections, the aftermath of the CERIS event leaves us inspired and energised.
The SMAUG project, with pleasure, accepted the invitation to participate in the CERIS workshop on Innovation for Maritime Situational Awareness and Security that took place on Monday, 19 February 2024, in Brussels!
The title of the session was “Innovation for integrated information management and sharing”, and SMAUG, represented by Indra, alongside with other EU-funded projects, formed a panel discussing and exchanging information about each project’s scope while presenting and discussing European research, innovative solutions, and further capability needs relevant to maritime situational awareness and maritime security. The Workshop brought together updates and EU-funded projects of innovative European technologies in the field, from autonomous platforms to data fusion, presenting experiences and opportunities of cooperative and integrated information management and discussed how research results can be more efficiently exploited.
Practitioners, particularly Coast Guards, as well as innovators and policymakers on capabilities connected to marine search and rescue, sea border surveillance, and other maritime security and safety responsibilities, were among the interested audiences
SMAUG’s presentation in CERIS continued on Wednesday 21st of February in the “CERIS workshop on illicit drugs: challenges and opportunities for introducing innovative and science-based approaches”. Consortium partners from the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria led the presentation, introducing the risks and challenges that the SMAUG project is intended to combat in a dedicated panel for Drug-related organised crime.
The SMAUG project gathered a lot of interest during these days. The project had the opportunity to be further discovered, disseminated and engaged with interested stakeholders. Our reflections on the CERIS event are grounded on the opportunity that we gained to connect with fellow participants, speakers, and industry experts. The networking sessions provided a platform to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and forge collaborations. The relationships formed during the event are not just professional connections but potential catalysts for future projects and collaborations enriching the research field.
