Juan Gómez Lasquetty introduces FAVIT and his views on the SMAUG project!

Let us know more about yourself. How your expertise is linked with the project. What drives you to be involved in the project?

FAVIT is a young research-oriented startup founded in 2020 by three entrepreneurs with a long experience in European projects that have already received EU funding from Open Calls of H2020 CYRENE and H2020 ASSIST-IoT. Its participation now in SMAUG represents a significant leap forward for the company both from a technical and financial point of view. The knowledge acquired in SMAUG throughout its execution will allow the company to offer new IT-based solutions that will enlarge those that FAVIT already offers to the market, reinforcing its competitiveness.

FAVIT’s role in SMAUG. In which activities you are involved? Which results do you expect to generate?

FAVIT has a leading role in the analysis of the current security systems and management platforms in the ports and will explore the existing gaps based on the user’s needs and requirements. It will also be an active partner in developing the necessary data models (including CISE) and the integration frameworks. Additionally, FAVIT leads the project’s consultation strategy with national/European authorities.

How do you think SMAUG is expected to impact the community?

SMAUG faces a series of technical challenges currently existing in the underwater detection and identification of illicit goods by integrating advanced acoustic detection technologies supported by AI models and different unmanned systems in a common platform. The success of its obtained results and outcomes may represent a revolution in the ports security systems for detecting illegal activities while ensuring navigation safety in the port environment.

And finally, what is the most exciting part of the SMAUG project?

FAVIT’s most exciting part of the project is the development of the complete SMAUG system architecture integrating all the deployed platforms and technologies as well as the development of AI models for enhancing alarms detection and decision support.
