Álvaro Gutiérrez introduces Universidad Politecnica De Madrid (UPM) and his views on the SMAUG project!

Let us know more about yourself. How your expertise is linked with the project. What drives you to be involved in the project?

UPM’s team have been working for some decades in signal analysis processing and more recently in artificial intelligence models for classification and prediction. Moreover, the UPM team has been leading several robotic projects and specifically underwater robots research projects. On top of that, the groups of UPM involved in SMAUG, have been leading more than 20 FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe RIA and IA projects!

UPM’s role in SMAUG. In which activities you are involved? Which results do you expect to generate?

UPM is leading WP4 for the technological part, and specifically on the acoustic detection based on signal processing where it has its background. Moreover, UPM leads the scientific dissemination task. In other levels, UPM participates in Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning aspects.

How do you think SMAUG is expected to impact the community?

The SMAUG project has the potential to impact the community in Enhancing Port Security, Increase Safety, Prevention of Illicit Activities and using Efficient Resources Utilization for underwater detection.
