SMAUG Key Exploitable Results page

SMAUG is delivering a portfolio of innovative technologies and solutions that strengthen the protection of ports and maritime infrastructure against underwater and surface threats. Through extensive validation in operational port environments across Europe, the project is developing exploitable results that can support port authorities, coast guards, customs, law enforcement agencies and critical infrastructure operators in improving maritime situational awareness and security.

KER #1: C2 Underwater Capabilities

Integrates SMAUG's underwater detection technologies into Indra's Command & Control product suite for maritime security and maritime transport.

KER #2: C2 Interoperability Improvement

Exploitation partner(s): INDRA

New interfaces for alarms, incidents and video systems that improve the interoperability of C2 applications used in ports.

KER #3: CISE Node

Exploitation partner(s): ATHANOR

Deployment of a CISE (Common Information Sharing Environment) node, giving EU port authorities and administrations the capacity to interact with port community systems.

KER #4: Underwater Detection (Joint KER)

Improved detection of underwater structures using acoustic and short/long-range sonar, combining signal analysis, surveillance-vessel operation and underwater- drone technology.

KER #5: Collective Localisation (Joint KER)

Exploitation partner(s): SSSA, UPM

Improves object localisation by combining collective, semi-autonomous underwater vehicles into a coordinated swarm.

KER #6: Acoustic Detection

Advances in signal and data analysis for underwater acoustic detection.

KER #7: Underwater Sonar Detection

Design and test short-range underwater sonar detection capabilities with multiple sonars and validate the feasibility of sonar-based detection for use case-specific purposes and determine the limits of short-range sonars and their usability.

KER #8: Surface Vessel – Underwater Robot Integration

Integration of an underwater robot with an uncrewed surface vessel for uncrewed offshore operations, generating new knowledge on robot-to-robot collaboration.

KER #9: 3ACES – Analytics as a Service

Exploitation partner(s): ITML

Advancement of ITML's ML/AI-based analytics tool and algorithms, refined through end-user-driven experiments within SMAUG.

KER #10: Autonomous Vessel

Exploitation partner(s): LEMVOS

Development of a commercially viable autonomous vessel for port security, built in collaboration with Valencia Port.

KER #11: Autonomous Docking Point

Exploitation partner(s): LEMVOS

A docking station allowing small vessels to dock and undock without human intervention, developed with Valencia Port.

KER #12: CISE Adaptor

A CISE adaptor dedicated to port authorities, enabling interoperability with EU maritime stakeholders via a dedicated node.

KER #13: ML Algorithms and Developments

AI decision-making tools (OnEO, CMME) built on an MLOps methodology that fuses data from PCS, CCS, GNSS and underwater sources.

KER #15: Autonomous Surface & Aerial Monitoring System (Joint KER)
