AUSTRALO (Estonia)

Antonis Sapountzis introduces AUSTRALO and his views on the SMAUG project!
Let us know more about yourself. How your expertise is linked with the project. What drives you to be involved in the project?
Through my role at AUSTRALO, I can contribute to the effective planning, communication and dissemination of complex technical information in an accessible and engaging way, which aligns with the project’s goal of promoting broad awareness and understanding of its innovative technologies. I am deeply committed to communicating and disseminating the project’s results to achieve maximum stakeholder outreach and impact. I recognise the crucial role of effective communication in garnering interest and acceptance of new technologies like those developed within SMAUG. My involvement in this project is driven by a strong desire to facilitate the communication and dissemination of transformative technologies, contributing to the project’s success and positive societal impact.
AUSTRALO’s role in SMAUG. In which activities you are involved? Which results do you expect to generate?
In SMAUG, AUSTRALO is leading the Outreach, Exploitation and Collaboration activities with a primary goal to reach the highest possible impact for SMAUG raising broad awareness of the project and its outcomes. While motivating consortium partners to be actively involved in Outreach, Exploitation and Collaboration activities, AUSTRALO will be closely collaborating with Universidad Politecnica De Madrid in the Scientific dissemination and knowledge diffusion activities as well as with INDRA in Exploitation, innovation and sustainability. AUSTRALO will strive to maximise the project’s visibility, identification and reach by transforming the project results into effective messages.
How do you think SMAUG is expected to impact the community?
SMAUG is expected to significantly enhance port security and prevent illicit activities by optimising underwater and aerial detection. This will benefit the public by making ports safer, reducing illegal goods trafficking, and minimising costs for authorities and ports. The project will promote broad awareness and stimulate acceptance of human-robot interactions, advocating maritime safety technology’s potential and benefits among a diverse audience.
And finally, what is the most exciting part of the SMAUG project?
We believe that the innovations generated by the SMAUG project will significantly enhance port security while easing LEAs’ work and strengthening Europe’s security.
