SMAUG Project team interviews!

We are thrilled to present our remarkable team and the collective journey we are embarking upon to a safer maritime environment!

As we gather in unity, each consortium partner brings a unique set of skills, perspectives, and expertise that contribute to the dynamic tapestry of our collaboration. The SMAUG team forms a cohesive force driven by a shared vision and a commitment to excellence, aiming to improve and enhance the security of ports and their entrance routes.

A highly experienced consortium consisting of 22 partners, including Universities, Research Centres, SMEs, Law Enforcement Agencies, Public authorities, Coastal / Border guards and Private organisations which span across 7 EU countries (Spain, Estonia, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Norway) countries shaping the SMAUG consortium!

Let’s sail away to meet the SMAUG partners.

Solange Tardi introduces Elistair and her views on the SMAUG project!

Let us know more about yourself. How your expertise is linked with the project. What drives you to be involved in the project?

Elistair’s leading aerial surveillance technology provides continuous, timely and actionable intelligence to help teams in the field protect lives and assets. Tethered border patrol drones give you access to an enduring, wide-perimeter view of borders to facilitate safe control of these critical zones. Monitoring hundreds of kilometers of borders requires a high cost in human resources and constant vigilance. Aerial surveillance drones can be used as border patrol systems on strategic crossing points like ports and remain on station at heights of 60 meters for day into night missions. Equipped with EO/IR sensors, these drone surveillance systems provide instant and permanent views of areas up to 10 square kilometres and ensure a secure data transfer directly to the operators through the tether. The SMAUG project allows us to deploy our dronebox from an autonomous boat and launch it when from this moving platform to detect illicit boats and people.

Elistair’s role in SMAUG. In which activities you are involved? Which results do you expect to generate?

Elistair is involved in the technological work packages. First, this project is a great opportunity to have direct feedback and needs from the end-users which are also involved in the project. Secondly, it is the chance for us to work on the marinization of our dronebox, to integrate it on an autonomous boat and respond to the numerous demands from the maritime end-users. We expect to have a fully integrated system at the end of the project, working properly on the port, weather-resistant and remotely deployable from a C2.

How do you think SMAUG is expected to impact the community?

SMAUG is really important for end-users to see the application of a fully integrated system with multiple technologies. The use cases will provide various scenarios in which the technologies will be useful and enhance the supervision power of the operational teams. We hope that SMAUG will bring a more understandable knowledge of what is possible to realize with our systems.

And finally, what is the most exciting part of the SMAUG project?

On behalf of Elistair, the use cases will be the most exciting part. We would be able to see the end-user using the newly developed technology and listen to their feedback. It will be really precious to adjust the product to fit the market.
